Characteristics of Cellulose / q-Chitosan Solution

Abstract

|
On the basis of the fact that q-chitosan(quarternary ammonium chitosan)could be synthesized from chitosan in NaOH solution, NaOH solution was applied to dissolve cellulose and to consequently get mixed solutions of celluslose / q-chitosan in same solvent, i.e., NaOH solution. It was found that q-chitosan was synthesized in NaOH solution, yielding upto 100wt%, and cellulose was dissolved upto 8 wt% in same solvent, and especially during the dissolving process of cellulose q-chintosan helped to dissolve the last remains of still undissolved cellulose particles. The mixed solutions of cellulose /q-chitisan showed 100% antibacterial activity at the 5 wt% of mixed ratio of q-chitosan to cellulose.
